Introduction

Yom Hashoah: World War II Sites in the Middle East and North Africa

The Holocaust was primarily, but not only a European event. During World War II, labor and internment camps were built in North Africa, Jews were deported out of major cities, and some were even transported to Europe and eventually met their death at the hands of the Nazis. This map shows some of the different Holocaust sites in the Diarna collection. There are additional camps in Yifrin, Sidi Azaz, Gharyan, Tigrinna, and other locations that still need to be identified, along with sites other than camps that need to be identified.
